emergency rental assistance program

New York is in the process of planning on the distribution of the $25 billion dollars of funds, that will help people get caught up on back rent during the Covid pandemic.

For now, here’s what you need to know about accessing funds authorized by the $25 billion Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

Am I eligible?

To qualify for the assistance, at least one member of your household has to have lost income or incurred significant expenses due to the pandemic, or be eligible for unemployment benefits.

You will also need to demonstrate a risk of homelessness. Typically this is done in writing and can be also shown with a late rent bill or late or behind utility bill.

In addition, your income level for 2020 can’t exceed 80% of your area’s median income, though states have been directed to prioritize applicants who fall at 50% or lower, as well as those who’ve been out of work for 90 days or more.

How do I apply?

We are recommending speaking to a Non Profit HUD approved housing agency to get you ready. Many agency are reaching out to there area median networks in-order to advise the community of the program and how to be succesfull in applying.
